Enrique Peiniger is a co-founder and principal of Office for Visual Interaction, a New York City based lighting design studio for iconic international projects. OVI has provided custom solutions for award-winning projects spanning the globe. With a background in architectural engineering and social sciences, Enrique sees his work in lighting as a technical extension of the architectural language. He has integrated cutting-edge lighting technology for leading historic, contemporary and avant-guard architectural works including Zaha Hadid’s Bergisel Ski Jump and Headquarters for the Saudi Arabian Oil Company, Renzo Piano’s New York Times Building and Enric Miralles’ Scottish Parliament. Current works include the Canadian Parliament, thePresidential Library in Kazaksthan and the famed Chicago Landmark, The Rookery.Research and development are an integral part of OVI’s work. Enrique frequently spearheads collaborations with industry to develop custom luminaires that incorporate specialized finishes, innovative manufacturing techniques, and emerging light sources. The work of Enrique’s studio has been featured in all major architectural and lighting publications around the world. In 2010, OVI’s work was the subject of a solo exhibition at the Architecture Forum in Berlin. He has led lighting design workshops and lectured worldwide at professional lighting congresses and universities, including a keynote presentation at Neocon in Toronto, Canada and lectures at Light + Building in Frankfurt, Yale University, Light Insight Arabia Conference in Dubaiand the PLDC conventions in Berlin and London. In 2004, he was appointed as the lighting expert for UNESCO missions to Kuwait. Enrique has taught courses at the Technical University of Berlinand advanced courses in lighting design at the Parsons School of Design in New York, where he was appointed as a distinguished faculty member.The quality of Enrique’s work has been recognized with the highest honors in international lighting competitions including the World Architecture News’ Lighting Project of the Year Award; the GE Edison Award; the IESNA’s Lumen Award of Excellence and International Award of Distinction; Architect Magazine Prototype Award and the IALD Award of Excellence.Highly active in professional organizations, Enrique is a professional member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA), the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), the Professional Lighting Designers’ Association (PLDA) where he served as Treasurer. He is also a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the U.S. Green Building Council.
