POST OCCUPANCY: WHY AND HOW TO EVALUATE USER EXPERIENCES
Kevan Shaw, IALD, KSLD, Edinburgh, Scotland
Lighting design is about delivering quality lighting. While we have tools that can measure the quantity of light, this does not tell us whether a design is delivering quality. It is rare to get the opportunity to do a formal Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE) of a project – yet, with recent changes to lighting technology it is more important than ever that we do this. This session will share existing methods for POE studies, posit a new method for evaluating the user experience, and provide the basis of a toolkit that practicing designers and students can use in their own POE studies.
