Peter Raynham, The Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, London, UK
Glenn Heinmiller, IALD, Lam Partners, Cambridge, MA USA

Marty Salzberg, IALD, Cline Bettridge Bernstein, New York, NY USA

Join three lighting experts, from two sides of the Atlantic, to explore the impact of energy and building codes on lighting, lighting design and design practice. Glenn Heinmiller, IALD; Peter Raynham; and Marty Salzberg, IALD, will discuss the "alphabet soup" of modern energy codes: "Part L", "ASHRAE/IES 90.1", "IECC" and others. The session aims to fly above the detail of specific code provisions and explore the ways in which codes form both limits and opportunities for professional lighting designers. Bring your code-related issues to discuss: the session will feature lively interchange among the panelists and between panelists and audience.

Key Questions:

  • Which aspects of codes cause the most problems?
  • Where do you see opportunities to simplify codes?
  • Share examples of steps you have taken to address code problems.
  • Share examples of codes as a business opportunity and how that has worked out.
